This unique bi-directional DC motor speed controller is based around a Microchip PIC microcontroller at the heart of the circuit con-
trolling a full H-Bridge power stage using four high-power efficient MOSFETs. The controller allows you to control both the Speed and
Direction of a DC motor using a Pulse-Width-Modulated (PWM) DC voltage with a Duty Cycle fully adjustable from 0 to 100% (both
Positive and Negative DC output). It can deliver a maximum continuous current of about 7A out of the box, and up to 10A to 15A with the
addition of an optional fan and reinforcement of PCB tracks!
Traditionally, switches are used to reverse the polarity of the voltage applied to a DC
motor in order to change the rotation direction. However, this method requires use of
DPDT switches and causes the voltage applied to the motor to suddenly change from full
positive to full negative. The sudden change while the motor is spinning leads to a high level of mechanical stress on
the motor, as well as high current surges that can cause damage to any electronics in the path. This circuit is different!
Using a full H-Bridge circuit, the solid-state design of this motor speed controller does not use any mechanical switch-
es, and it allows control of both speed and direction through a single potentiometer. At its center position, the motor
will be forced to stop (i.e. it brakes), as opposed to a floating/coasting state, and the motor terminals will be grounded.
Turning the potentiometer clockwise causes the motor to start spinning slowly in the positive direction, with increasing speed up to the maximum supply voltage at its maximum posi-
tion. Turning the potentiometer in the counter-clockwise direction will cause the motor to spin in the reverse direction, again starting slowly up to a maximum negative supply volt-
age. As an added option, the controller allows for selection of two operating PWM frequencies: 100 Hz or 200 Hz. From CanaKit.

vide continuous current to your DC motor or other DC load. Models are available
to handle up to 15 amps, 30 amps, or a whopping 50 amps!
Thanks to a digital microcontroller based (PIC) design and highly efficient
High-Power MOSFETs for cooler operation, these controllers will give you
all the torque you need at any speed!.
They can operate in either Fixed or Variable frequency modes - the
fixed frequency mode runs the controller at 100 Hz, and in the
variable frequency mode of operation the frequency can be
adjusted from 244 Hz to 3.125 KHz. Duty cycle is fully
adjustable from 0% to 100% in both modes.
The controllers also offer a built-in soft-start feature that greatly reduces the mechanical stress on the motor, not to
mention the electrodynamic stress on the attached cables and battery - this means longer life for the whole system!
An optional fan is available for the UK1115 and UK1130 models, and is recommended for continuous operation at max-
imum power or for high frequency at high current applications. The UK1133 comes pre-equipped with a fan, and can
also accept an optional LCD Display Module that displays current frequency and duty cycle. From CanaKit.

This DC motor speed controller uses the popular 555 Timer Integrated Circuit to generate a Pulse-Width-Modulated (PWM) output voltage with adjustable duty
cycle in order to control the speed of a DC motor without sacrificing torque.
Incorporating a high power MOSFET with a heat sink, this controller can easily provide a con-
tinuous current of 5A to your DC motor or other DC loads such as high-power LEDs or LED
strips for dimming applications.
The circuit also includes an LED speed indicator - the brightness varies in proportion to the rela-
tive speed of the motor, giving you a handy indicator of the current speed. The PWM frequency is
approximately 140 Hz, with the Duty Cycle adjustable from approximately 1% to 99%. From CanaKit.
